The Vrdolyak Law Group secured a $6 million recovery for the mother of a 19-year-old who tragically passed away from a heart condition while playing basketball, due to medical malpractice. The teen was not restricted from basketball by his cardiologist, despite having fainted while playing the sport nine months earlier and receiving abnormal results from both an electrocardiogram and an echocardiogram.

After the teen’s death, an autopsy showed that his heart was enlarged and had evidence of fibrosis and active myocarditis.
Lawyers for the hospital’s insurance company contended that the electrocardiogram and
echocardiogram were normal and that no additional testing or restrictions were necessary.
They argued that the teen developed myocarditis within a few weeks of his death, because at no time did he display any clinical symptoms of the condition.
Despite claiming they did nothing wrong, the hospital’s insurance company made a lowball
offer of $300,000. But, knowing this wasn’t right, the Vrdolyak Law Group took the case to
jury trial. At trial, they were able to get answers and closure for the teen’s mother. In the
end, Vrdolyak Law convinced the jury of the hospital’s culpability, and forced the insurance
company to pay a verdict of $6 million.
